Nemahsis – Paper Thin

Who hasn’t wanted to change something about themselves? A physical characteristic or a behavioural trait… In this ballad, Paper Thin, Nemahsis, not only touches on an issue inherent to so many, but she confronts it head on!

I was always made the exception
Always seem to find a way to doubt myself
Was I even worthy of attention?
Always used to pray to be someone else

Discussing the motivation behind her latest single, paper thin, the Canadian artist said, “I was taught to pray for whatever you want, and God will provide. I wasted two decades begging for fairer skin and lighter eyes; it became routine,”

This stunning acoustic composition tells a story of her past struggles, pain and suffering. Nemahsis‘s wavering vocals convey these emotions in an extraordinarily palpable manner. One can’t help but feel her aching and relate to it.

Nonetheless, this sombre piece also displays defiance with Nemahsis overcoming her woes and conquering the self doubt which once haunted her. She went on to say, “I spent the majority of my life hating the features I currently love most about myself.”
