The Main Squeeze – When I See Darkness

When I See Darkness from The Main Squeeze will enlighten your day! Yep, it’s kind of a giant oxymore which will irradiate your bones with good vibes. Believe me, this song is an energy bomb. I’d suggest you listen to it in the morning and you won’t be able to remove that grin on your face all day long. So put your headphones on and become a walking emoji!

The Main Squeeze, comprising of Corey Frye (vocals, keys), Ben “Smiley” Silverstein (keys, keytar), Maximillian Newman (guitar), Reuben Gingrich (drums) and Rob “Skywalker” Walker (bass, keys, vocals) apparently met while at Indiana University.
I love this band. They have the power to transport you to other time and music genres dimensions without leaving your couch. Just perfect.
When I See Darkness, the ninth track of their prodigious album titled To Be Determined, will take you from funky early 80s directly to progressive rock from the 70s, where Maximilian Newman is the adopted son of David Gilmour (Pink Floyd, just in case…), performing a masterly solo.

Although I must say, when Corey Frye is on the mic, every song turns to gold so you could even play the wrong key at the back, it will turn out amazing!
Shame the rest of the band is so awesome actually… Seriously guys, it’s unbalanced, you should have kept a bit of talent for other people. Rob, you are far too groovy for this world man, please lower the level ok? I don’t know… remove a couple of strings maybe? Reuben, where does this monstrously funky rhythm come from? Playing with Rob as the two of you are one, honestly? Tsss… Ben? The psychedelic atmosphere you add on the bridge is just insane. That’s it, next time, you play with a hand in the back. And Max… oh come on man, this solo? Really? Shall we all stop playing guitar now? Is that what you want? I’m going to tell David, be careful…

The Main Squeeze released To Be Determined, including the When I See Darkness track, early 2022 and if you don’t have it already in your music library, you should stop what you’re doing right away and add it now! I’m waiting… done? Good.
On my side I’m clearly determined to listen to The Main Squeeze’s album in repeat play mode until I sing like Corey Frye (meaning in several lifetimes… or more).
