Yehra – Magnetic

Warning: the bass line in Magnetic from Yehra will haunt you for days. You’ll find yourself at the cash register of your favorite supermarket humming this line and, trust me, it won’t leave your brain! I heard some people were seen singing “we’ll never be as one” to the cashier which led to awkward situations, so please be careful with this song, it’s ultra addictive! Now, put your headphones on and go do your grocery shopping!

On the other hand, the song is called Magnetic so… you are kind of warned right at the beginning, if you see what I mean… And magnetic it is. First this bass line I told you about. Pure evil, but in a good way. As Rasmus Liebst said (see below), a “guitarist” bass line. Then these fingers snaps… are your hips moving at the same tempo as these fingers snaps right now? I know… same here… so cruel… You also have this beautiful work on the bottleneck guitar (thanks to Otto Rud), except Otto used a beer bottle for that. Carlsberg? Tuborg? So mysterious… But, the ultimate merciless effect for your ears is Jen Mahon’s voice. So smooth and velvety, so seeeeexy (sigh), you will really get the impression you are walking on a cloud when listening to Magnetic.

Rasmus commented about the track: “I borrowed this Fender bass, but more a guitarist than a bassist, so I laid down this kind of ‘guitarist’ bass line. I added a bit of keys and drums to that and felt like I had a pretty good mood right there. I send that to Jen, and she quickly made the melody you hear on the song.“, and Jen added “Magnetic is one of those tracks that already had its title before any words were written. Rasmus sent the instrumental to me with the label ‘Magnetic Woman’ and I thought that was a pretty cool concept, so we went with the whole idea of being drawn to someone as a force of nature.

I am definitely drawn to Yehra, they get me every time, after Dirty Love, Daydreaming (in my pipeline for later…) and now Magnetic, Yehra‘s EP, called Magnetic (yep, same name), will be magnetised to the top of your playlist.

In a way I find it hard to hate
Because I know you’re looking for a chase
And I like to get caught and then let go
It’s so reliable, so inevitable that

We’ll never be as one
Never as one, never as one, no

Well, if you like soulful music, you’ll catch Yehra, it’s inevitable!
