Yves Paquet – Year Without Rain

Year Without Rain from Yves Paquet is not a weather report of any kind. Although, I must admit, the world situation on this topic is a bit alarming and this title could actually turn out to be premonitory. Nope, Year Without Rain is another masterpiece for your ears from Yves Paquet, his second title of his new folk era. It’s a message of hope, so put your headphones on and don’t forget your umbrella!

Yves Paquet is a Belgian artist with native-American roots who has a very strange particularity: he has got magical powers in his voice and he is able to take you to another dimension of emotions whether he sings soul, funk or folk songs. Seriously, listen to this guy’s voice, the tessitura, the numerous octaves, the falsetto, the high and low notes, you name it, Yves’s got it all!

In 2021, Yves Paquet launched his acclaimed soul album Every Now And Then. He then felt he had to explore another musical genre which was close to his heart: folk.
…traveling all over Ireland, England and Bretagne listening to folk singers in the pubs at night, there was always something that struck a chord in my heart. After Rolling Stone France labeled my song “25-28” as folk last year, I got triggered to start writing my first songs in that genre”, explains the singer-songwriter.

Year Without Rain was released today following the amazing A Southern Tale which has been available since last April on numerous platforms including your favorite one headphonik (of course, what else George?).
I love the tension on the violin and acoustic guitar at the beginning of the song, it adds a serious and dark atmosphere which slowly becomes lighter with the falsetto voice on the chorus and the piano, supported by the electric guitar towards the end. The dynamic goes also crescendo, the acoustic guitar serving as a metronome throughout the whole track.

Yves Paquet’s Year Without Rain is definitely worth a listen and will bring sunshine into your life, as much as the whole musical universe of this epic vocalist.

Lyrics

A year without rain is a year where I don’t get wet
A year without sunshine, is a year where I don’t get burnt
A year without battle is a year where I don’t need to stand up
A year without love is a year without pain

Ooh you’re waiting on a cloud right above me
And so, one day I will fly right beside you
Ooh they will never understand how much it takes to love again

A year without hardship is a year where I don’t need to work
A year without struggle is a year where I don’t get hurt
But a year without love is a year without you, I get that
but I don’t want that, no, I don’t want that

Ooh you’re waiting on a cloud right above me
And so, one day I will fly right beside you
Ooh they will never understand how much it takes to love again

But it takes a while to let it go
Yeah it takes a while

Ooh you’re waiting on a cloud right above me
And so, one day I will fly right beside you
Ooh they will never understand how much it takes to love again

Enjoy and take care.
