Blanco White – Olalla

Even though this song Olalla by Blanco White was released in 2018, it should not be forgotten! And as we love it so much, we wanted to share! This beautifully crafted piece has a stunning blend of South American and European instrumentation which keeps you listening until the end. Supported by the mellifluous voice of Blanco White, you almost feel swept away.

Blanco White, aka Josh Edwards, is a British singer-songwriter and guitarist who spent time in Spain and Bolivia where he studied the flamenco guitar and the charango respectively. Hence, these influences have enabled him to make magic!

Blanco White‘s unique style on the track Olalla also takes us on a journey, perhaps to a small humble hamlet in the North of Spain. To a place where change weighs heavy on the heart. Speaking about the song, this London based artist apparently said, “‘Olalla’ is a song about the disappearing towns and villages of Southern Europe. Often these places are staggeringly beautiful, but are slowly being abandoned as jobs and communities migrate elsewhere. I think I just felt moved by that idea of loss and seemingly inevitable change. Although the narrative laments that change, I hope the song would still be uplifting in some way and capture some of the excitement that I’ve felt when stumbling across a beautiful place.”

Indeed, the stirring yet comforting melodies are a paradox which actually leave us feeling inspired and uplifted! Thank you Blanco White! Olalla appears on the album On the Other Side which was released in 2018, thus it’s easy to find 😁
