Our Violet Room (feat. Emma Cole) – Winter

Our Violet Room, featuring Emma Cole, take us on a journey through the seasons in the song Winter. Starting with winter, proceeding through autumn and then finally by way of summer, this indie-folk song meanders about the perpetual changes of weather. So put your headphones on and prepare for a change of temperature!

‘See you breathe between the naked trees.‘ allows us to visualise winter, ‘Sun it peaks between the orange red trees.‘ encapsulates autumn and ‘Sun it shines as its heat sets free.‘ envisages summer. This poetic lyricism not only has us wandering about the seasonal changes, but pondering the perennial adjustments of relationships. That push and pull, give and take, digging deep until finally… one has to face the fact that it is over. In fact, Our Violet Room, aka Matthew Birch was inspired to write the song Winter, after the break-up of his marriage.

About the song Winter, Our Violet Room said, “I wrote “Winter” about the changing of the seasons in nature (Fall, Winter, and Summer) and about the changing of the “seasons” in a relationship. The ebbs and flows, the ups and downs and the holding onto hope when you feel that your relationship may be ending,”

The acoustic guitar dominates the sonic scope, coupled with a delightful arrangement of drums, bass and various other sound releasing apparatuses. Matthew Birch’s euphonic vocals are amazing and have that storyteller quality which have your ears scotched. On this track, Winter, the Denver based singer-songwriter is joined by another hometown artist, Emma Cole who is the lead singer in the band Wildermiss. Her ethereal vocals accompany Birch’s perfectly, adding a haunting effect to boot.
