Our Violet Room is at it again, captivating our hearts and souls with his gorgeous music! Loss (and I) is the newly released single from Matthew Birch who makes music as Our Violet Room. This indie-folk track, Loss (and I), is a real beauty! Beauty not only as far as musicality is concerned but also as far as the story being portrayed. The proficient plucking and strumming of the acoustic guitar makes a piercing beginning to this delicate ode, Loss (and I). Then Our Violet Room‘s tender, soul reaching vocals follow and in great indie-folk style, tell a charismatic story which has you riveted from start to finish. The topic of the narrative: a relationship, one which is almost over before it begins nonetheless, love tries to find a way.

“Broken, you came into my life, and broken I was too”, the doomed union dawns. “I took what’s yours and kept what’s mine”, the confession of wrongdoings as well as the acceptance of the hurt unwittingly inflicted, “I saw your anger, not your pain”. These raw, poignant lyrics go straight to the heart where the aching is palpable. Nonetheless, the binding love can be equally measured, “And you have been here for me for many years. And you know that I will be here for many more. And I love you, dear.” The latter forms the chorus where Our Violet Room‘s harmonies bring relief to the melancholy feel of the song. About the tale, Loss (and I), Our Violet Room explains on social media, “I wrote this song the week after my wife and I separated in hopes that one day we would be back together again.”

Our Violet Room is a Los Angeles native who is currently based in Denver. This singer-songwriter and guitarist is quickly garnering much attention due to his honest and insightful lyricism. He states on his website that, “I don’t go for cool or hip, I go for what moves me.” Isn’t it lucky that what moves Our Violet Room just so happens to be hip and cool!
