Kelsey Blackstone & Jason LaPierre – When I’m With You

Isn’t life beautiful guys? When I’m With You from the gorgeous Kelsey Blackstone and the moustachioed Jason LaPierre, is one of these happy songs with such great vibes, you could fall in love with your tax collector when listening to it! We’ve just entered the groovy season of love, which is Spring, and this colourful piece of soul and funky music will put you in a romantic mood right away! So put your headphones on and give a big kiss to the person next to you! (some might get lucky and meet a tax collector!)

Destiny. I’m pretty sure this mysterious force made Boston-based soul-pop artist Kelsey Blackstone and Connecticut pop-jazz artist Jason LaPierre find each other. Her name is “Blackstone” and “La Pierre” means “The Stone” in French! If you add to it that their new release “When I’m With You” is a pure gem, you soon realise they were meant to work together!

When I’m With You is an ode to your other half. The uplifting song combines influences of pop and modern jazz in such a joyful harmony. Press play, and you’ll feel like you are in these movies where dozens of people start dancing in the street, all knowing, of course, the super complex choreography, smiling away without even sweating a drop!
When I’m With You is 162 seconds of pure happiness. In addition, one would definitely appreciate even more the positive vibes of this single when one knows it has been ultimately crafted via Zoom during the dark hours of the 2020 pandemic!

The poetic tune starts with the glamorous voice of Kelsey Blackstone accompanied by funky strums at the guitar. Kelsey’s voice musical range is actually amazing, she could easily go from a very light perimeter of high notes which gives an enchanting atmosphere to When I’m With You, to a sexy deep 70s soul register within the same song.
Then comes… the big band. Wow. Actually, to be honest, I’m not sure there were that many playing but, man, the vibrations which will take possession of your body at that moment, reflects the quality of an orchestra playing behind a soul legend of the 60/70s. That monstrous lick on bass at 1:10 for instance… I mean… man… It should be illegal to show off that much. So groovy!!!
The fabulous brass section and the melodious organ supporting Kelsey’s vocal performance is simply superb.

The whole arrangement of When I’m With You has this infectious live-style energy and will give you no other choice to check out Kelsey Blackstone & Jason LaPierre’s creative work!

When I’m With You was released on March 24th (today!) and the official video filmed at the iconic Olympia Diner in Berlin, CT (the other Berlin) will be published next week! You could then probably enjoy Jason’s moustache even more!
