Newdad – Slowly

NewDad is a young up and coming foursome from Galway, Ireland, consisting of Julie Dawson (vocals and rhythm guitar), Áindle O’Beirn (bassist), Sean O’Dowd (lead guitarist) and Fiachra Parslow (drummer). Slowly is the latest track from their forthcoming debut EP titled Waves which is due for release on March 26th. Exciting!!

Despite its name, Slowly is actually a vivacious and ebullient piece. The arrangement of guitar riffs, frantic drum beats, deep base frequency and the warbled vocals are immaculate. NewDad touch on the ambiguity of feelings and how they can be spontaneously hot and cold with seemingly no explanation.

About the song Slowly, the quartet NewDad explain:

“It’s a song about a person admitting their feelings for you with no follow through, and the feelings of uncertainty that surround that. It’s one of our more energetic songs, and the whole song moves quite frantically around the drums to convey the feeling of confusion when you go through this.”

“For a song called slowly we sure do play it fast and it hurts Áindle’s hands to play. It was definitely one of our roughest demos but Chris really helped to turn it into one of our favourite songs on the EP.”
