Yves Paquet – A Southern Tale

That voice my friends! Brrrr… it gave me goosebumps… Right at the beginning of A Southern Tale from Yves Paquet, the celtic guitar strums and the elfic vocal arrangements will take you to a land of legends where Yves Paquet is the wizard of souls. So put your headphones on, fly and follow this dragon!

In 2021, the Belgian artist with native-American roots Yves Paquet, released the acclaimed soul album Every Now And Then which I warmly recommend. Following the release of this long playing record, Yves felt he had to explore another musical genre which was close to his heart: folk. The same folk music you may hear in the Forest of Brocéliande or in the mystical land of Tír na nOg.

Since my first visit to the mythical Carnac stones as a child, I’ve been fascinated by old legends, fables and fairytales. Later, traveling all over Ireland, England and Bretagne listening to folk singers in the pubs at night, there was always something that struck a chord in my heart. After Rolling Stone France labeled my song “25-28” as folk last year, I got triggered to start writing my first songs in that genre”, explains the singer-songwriter.
And he adds “[A Southern Tale] uses lyrical elements of fairy tales and legends and the chorus is like a hymn to love as the most powerful weapon.

Southern belle in a southern tale
Oh nightingale why did you fly away
The ice in the north is melting today
I walk on water as the river find its way

Ok, I don’t usually believe in fairy tales, but I have to admit, with a voice like that, Yves Paquet probably had a dozen wizards casting positive spells over his cradle!!!
Two of them might have been Iskander Moens and Renato Màrquez who feature in A Southern Tale, the first one with a witchcrafted guitar instead of a magic wand and the second one flying on an enchanted violin.

Lyrics

Southern belle in a southern tale
Oh nightingale why did you fly away
The ice in the north is melting today
I walk on water as the river find its way

Hold up your torch in the darkest hour
Hold on to love, it’s your mightiest power
I will go breaking the spell that was cast
To whoever conquered you first, I will be the last

Silent storms in the corner of your heart
Who would you call when the world falls apart
Your feelings hidden in a fortress of your mind
A castle’s seal that they will never find

Hold up your torch in the darkest hour
Hold on to love, it’s your mightiest power
I will go breaking the spell that was cast
To Whoever conquered you first, I will be the last

Southern belle in a southern tale
Oh nightingale why did you fly away
