Moaning Lisa – Inadequacy

Moaning Lisa‘s latest indie rock creation, Inadequacy, contrary to its name, ticks all the right boxes! The brooding, temperamental ambience this song offers is heightened by the gritty drum beats, the distorted guitar hashing, the moxy vocals and the thickly layered vocal arrangement in the chorus. Moaning Lisa said about the song, it’s “meant to be equal parts moody and upbeat. Something you can simultaneously yell and dance to.” I can confirm how much fun it is to yell and dance to!

Moaning Lisa, a four piece ensemble, was formed in Canberra, the Aussie capital, while the members where studying music. We find Charlie Versegi (singer-songwriter and bassist), Hayley Manwaring (singer-guitarist), Ellen Chan (lead guitarist) and Hayden Fritzlaff (drummer). The group are now based in Melbourne.

Inadequacy appears on the album Something Like This But Not This which was released in October 2021.

And I don’t know how to answer
So I just keep dancing ‘round
These things I’ll never master
While you
You’ll be so cool
Yeah you
You’re so cool I can barely handle it

Talking about Inadequacy, Versegi said, “The first line I wrote for the song was about not knowing whether to take your shoes or pants off first when you’re drunk and about to have sex with someone. ‘Inadequacy’ kind of snowballed from there and became this collection of tidbits about all the ways you can feel inadequate – all these tiny snapshots of everyday shortcomings.”
