Archive – Shouting Within

The well established British collective which is Archive, have recently released the second single, Shouting Within, from their much anticipated 17 track double album due for release early April 2022. This stunning ballad is an emotional medium for a narrative well known to us all. So put your headphones on and start shouting within!

Existence is different now

Rising and falling down
Hating, adoring now
People seem desperate somehow

Inspired by events provoked during the recent pandemic, this song conveys an array of feelings from fear and anger to disbelief and sadness. The salient prosody vocals portray these sentiments in a way which leave you with goosebumps. The predominantly piano-vocal number invokes a haunting, surreal atmosphere. The perceptive lyrics encompass the thoughts and sentiments of many of us.

Talking about the lyrics in Shouting Within, Archive‘s vocalist on this track, Holly Martin said, “Over the past two years we’ve seen how fear and uncertainty can impact on human connections. In writing ‘Shouting Within’ we wanted to talk about how people felt so angry, so paralysed and so vulnerable, often caught in the crossfire. They need to be connected but fear contact.“

In existence since 1994, the make-up and sound of the British group, Archive, have evolved. Founding members Darius Keeler (keyboards, synthesizer, piano, organ, programming, arrangements, production) and Danny Griffiths (keyboards, samples, additional programming, arrangements, production) are joined by Pollard Berrier (vocals, guitar), Dave Pen (vocals, guitar, percussion), Maria Q (vocals), Holly Martin (vocals), Jonathan Noyce (bass), Steve “Smiley” Barnard (drums) and Mike Hurcombe (Guitar) to form an amazing ensemble.

The soon to be released album of this London based nonet, titled Call To Arms & Angels, is well worth paying attention to. According to the stature of Shouting Within, we should all have April 8th marked on our calendars! In the meantime, start shouting within!
