Ben Auld – D4A

Ben Auld is a young, up-coming, British singer-songwriter whose much anticipated LP, titled Lemongrass, is due to be released on February 22nd. The debut track D4A is a charming, easy to listen to indie folk piece which lures one’s attention to the benign but deep situations in life in a charismatic fashion.

Who better than Auld himself to discuss the track. Regarding D4A, he once wrote:

“This song is a folky jaunt. It’s pretty jolly sounding which I think mostly comes from the high strung guitar and quick pace. The narrative is a classic tale of infatuation and I suppose this is just an earnest account of what that feels like, while trying to avoid being too cringey or uninspired.

I guess that’s why I wanted it to sound quite merry. These sorts of feelings are intense and difficult to navigate in the moment but they’re kinda inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. I also like people being able to imprint a broad range of feelings or experiences on the music and making something happy-sad-personal-ambiguous is a good way to achieve that haha.”

We love this cool ode with the rasping of the acoustic guitar to the jingle of the tambourine, the arrangements melt together perfectly with Auld’s smooth vocals and soft harmonies. Although somewhat melancholy, as the artist mentions, we are left with a merry, jolly pleasure. Thank you Ben Auld!
