Mild Orange – Oh Yeah
Have you ever felt that strong feeling of procrastination invading your brain when you are about to do something? These few minutes, or hours for some, when you find yourself watching the life of a hippopotamus on YouTube instead of writing your review for headphonik? Well, that’s exactly what happened to me today!
I was about to write this post on Oh Yeah from Mild Orange, a super cool band from New-Zealand, Aotearoa to be precise, one of the most isolated places on Earth as they like to call it. So I put my headphones on, and believe it or not, before I knew it, I was completely laid back watching Penelope the hippo of the Toronto zoo… Be careful with this song, it has a chilling super power!
Mild Orange is a band of friends composed of Josh Mehrtens, Josh Reid, Tom Kelk and Jack Ferguson (codenamed Mehrt, Jah, Barry and Jack), who is about to release their 3rd album Looking for Space on February 11th. They will tour in USA, Canada and Mexico right after that, so make sure you don’t miss them as they do get out of their most isolated place sometimes.
Oh Yeah starts with a delicate chords progression on the electric guitar with a nice clear sound with reverb effect, a relaxed tempo, then comes the bass supporting the voice which has a saturated effect, like old fashioned high impedance dynamic microphones, and finally the laid back drums. The chill effect is immediate, first you will sit back, take off your shoes, your stress will disappear and slowly, your fingers will begin to type “Penelope” on your keyboard… Seriously, this song is like medicine.
Mehrt commented on the song: “We wrote and recorded “Oh Yeah” in Carters Beach, on the rugged West Coast of New Zealand at a beach house only separated from the ocean by a paddock with horses roaming in it. It was very laid back and surfy there, which is how the song sounds. We all recorded our parts very laid back and unassumed of what it would become. What does the chorus oh yeah ah ah ah yeah uh even mean? No idea, but it feels good to sing.“
Told you. Sheila? Could you publish this text for me please? I’m just going to rest a bit…
See you guys…

About headphonik:
We are musicians and to help unknown or “less” known artists to promote their art, we became curators, so we curate and explore the web to find what’s really good and probably underrated in independent music.
Enjoy and take care.
