Sam Lynch – Keeping Time
It is quite an amazing thing when a singer’s voice is so stunning that it doesn’t need accompanying music to enhance it, it is enough on its own. This is how I feel about Sam Lynch‘s vocals in her latest offering entitled Keeping Time. So put your headphones on and listen to a little piece of brilliance!
The instrumentation at the beginning of the song, Keeping Time by Sam Lynch, has a very minimalist yet poignant sonic scope. The gentle plucking of an acoustic guitar accompanied by a wavering violin create an eloquent setting. Then the drums pound softly and smoothly enabling the tender vocals to take centre stage. Sam Lynch‘s sweet singing graces our ears, almost breathing the lyrics. As the song, Keeping Time, progresses, around the half way mark, the pace picks up leading to an exciting crescendo lead by the lustrous violin and rhythmic drum beats. The whispering vocals, although remaining warm and sweet, strengthen thus increasing intensity.
Now I keep watching people pass me by
It pulls the focus from the corner of my eye
So I’m using horoscopes to plan my life
There’s got to be something bigger than me, than you
The insightful, poetic lyrics tell us story of feeling a bit lost and overwhelmed by one’s surroundings and / or situation. That feeling of being unsteady and uncertain in an ever changing, demanding world is not new to many. About the song Keeping Time, Sam Lynch said that it is, “a song about losing your footing, and the endless search for something steady to hold onto.” Stability is something most of us search for as we all inevitably lose our footing from time to time.
Sam Lynch‘s stunning vocals and music will take you far away to a calm peaceful place. This Vancouver based indie folk/pop singer/songwriter released an album in 2020 titled Little Disappearance which is well worthy of listening to. About the album, Sam Lynch told the site everythingisnoise, that it is, ‘close, self-reflective, a little bit comforting, a little bit uncomfortable, a patchwork’. So don’t wait a moment longer to explore Sam Lynch‘s song Keeping Time and album Little Disappearance.
