Phoria – Melatonin (Unplugged)

I was working on this headphonik thing the other day and then, all of a sudden, I had the feeling the world was slowing down for a few seconds and I realised I was listening to Melatonin (unplugged version) from Phoria…

This song composed by the band from Brighton whose members are Seryn Burden, Tim Douglas, Jeb Hardwick, Trewin Howard and Ed Sanderson, gets me every time.
The singer, Trewin Howard admitted it was a long process to release this ode to the famous hormone regulating night and day cycles or sleep-wake cycles: “It started with the big joyous theme at the intro and probably went through 20 different arrangements before we got close to a finished tune“. Even though Howard confessed he had no trouble sleeping, he also added it was not that easy for him to forget his dreams sometimes. Sounds familiar?

The track does sound like a dream. First, the dance between the voice(s) (there is a background vocal on the chorus) and the guitar takes you to a meditative state. The G#m on the piano at 3:49 finally brings you to the daydreaming level where there is no space and time and… the world slows down.
