Pepperwood – San Francisco

Do you ever feel stuck in life? You know, that kind of feeling, when, you have no long term perspective to come and you start choking on your day-to-day activity? Until, of course, you start moving and you can breathe again. This is what the single San Francisco from the Nashville band Pepperwood is about. Zach Wyatt, Pepperwood‘s frontman, has this feeling sometimes. I have this feeling sometimes. We all have. So put your headphones on and start moving!

Don’t get me wrong, life is beautiful and you should always cherish it. However, not all of us have a straightforward life, drawn by some kind of hand of providence. And, even though you had one, there are certainly moments in your life when you can hear that little voice in your head saying “man, that’s it… something’s wrong here, move that bottom of yours… oh and listen to headphonik a bit more please…“
Ok, maybe not the last part, but you get the idea. So, now, imagine feeling like this, right in the middle of a lockdown period…
Zach said about San Francisco: “I always go through these seasons in life where I feel like I’m stuck, and I need a change of scenery, and the more stuck I feel, the more drastic that desire to run away and start anew gets. So in the midst of quarantine, stuck inside my apartment, I longed not to just get outside of those walls, but to get as far away from them as I could.
I was beginning to record an album when the pandemic started and put us on an indefinite hiatus, so I started teaching myself garageband (and then eventually logic) and created the entire demo at home. When my producer and I finally resumed, I pitched it to him and we decided to release it asap.“

And now we thank quarantine! Yes, ok, it was a shitty period, excuse my French, but as many other artists I reviewed, it has boosted their creativity!

San Francisco is a catchy track, you won’t resist the vocal arrangements in its powerful chorus or the dominant distorted guitars supported by robust drum and bass. Indie rock like we like it here! Energetic and vigorous, so turn this volume up!
Pepperwood is a Nashville band composed of Zach Wyatt on mic and guitars, Tyler Owens on bass and background vocals, Andrew Cantrell on guitars and background vocals and Dave Perotti on drums. The Pepperwood name comes from the New Girl TV series and was inspired by, I quote, “Nick Miller’s transformation from shlubby underachiever to best selling author“.

Musically, Pepperwood was a nice fresh discovery for us and they are undoubtedly worth a listen. On this matter, they are playing at the Cobra in Nashville on April 14th 2022 at 8pm, so if you’re around and you like good indie rock, you now know what you will be doing that night!
