Brother Bird – Sleep it Off

‘Sleep it Off‘ is the third track on Brother Bird‘s debut LP titled ‘gardens‘. This smooth indie-rock track is somewhat beautifully haunting. The captivating music and vocals will mesmerise you until you realise you have been listening to the same song on repeat for the last 30 minutes. So put your headphones on and see how the time flies when you are enjoying a good song.

Caroline Swon, who goes by the moniker Brother Bird for her latest solo project, is a Nashville based artist. After appearing on television program, The Voice, many moons ago, she decided to focus on her musical talent in a more serious manner. Brother Bird is a gifted singer-songwriter as well as a guitar, ukulele and piano player.

In the song ‘Sleep it Off‘, Brother Bird‘s feathery, ethereal vocals coupled with the carefully concocted soundscape provide a pleasurable listening experience. The catchy guitar riffs, guiding bass participation and the rhythm setting drum beats lead you through the song in a coherent fashion. The melancholic lyrics present a cathartic encounter however the musicality leaves an uplifting, inspiring taste in one’s mouth.

About her songs on the LP ‘gardens‘, Brother Bird once explained, “It’s really a journey through early adulthood. I’ve poured every ounce of myself into this collection of songs. It touches on personal battles with mental illness, navigating through love and loss, coming to terms with growing older, and literally everything in between. So much of the lyrical content is about the ugly parts of growing something beautiful. Personal growth can be messy and at times incredibly uninspiring.”

Brother Bird has an uncanny way of making the ‘ugly parts’ seem less so, and indeed she has a poetic way of conveying her ideas and notions. We just love Brother Bird‘s vibe and recommend you take a leisurely stroll through her LP ‘gardens‘, released in 2021, at your soonest availability.
