Late Night Pharmacy – Is It Because

Many of you may have already experienced unrequited love, yep that’s right, that one-sided connection that is not reciprocated. Hard to discuss or even think about? Or maybe you are in the denial or even the anger stage. Well the song Is It Because by Late Night Pharmacy tackles this subject in no uncertain terms, kind of like a rhetorical question. About the song Is It Because, the band, Late Night Pharmacy explained, “Unlike most of the songs in the band’s back catalogue, ‘Is It Because’ is a very personal song, with lyrics describing an unrequited romantic attraction in blunt, unsentimental language.” So put your headphones on and prepare for a candid experience!

We met in the middle and now I’ve regressed
Into a haze of ethanol
And disgust and the shame and the et cetera

The fast and furious guitar strokes coupled with up beat palpitating drum pounding will give you a surge of endorphins. Is It Because, by Late Night Pharmacy, has an exhilarating soundscape which will keep you on your toes and even tossing your head to and fro. A burst of emotions are discharged rendering this love gone wrong piece quite the cathartic experience. The powerful bridge, in particular, draws one’s attention with the distorted guitar hashing, complimented by and synchronised perfectly with, the gritty and reverberating drum batter. A more melodious chorus slows the rhythm down for a moment, giving a marvellous waltz feel. The unfortunate narrative is told by the canorous vocals which are at times smooth and feathery, then strong and determined towards the end of the song.

Late Night Pharmacy is an Irish indie-rock quartet, from the capital, Dublin, made up of Rob Maguire on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Fionn Murray on lead guitar and backing vocals, Michael Spence on bass and Bastiaan van Nijlen on drums. We particularly admire the originality and creative aspects of the song Is It Because. Late night Pharmacy have recorded and released other works including the song Too Late for the Rickshaws which recently debuted on the headphonik platform.
