The Lost Messiahs – Place in my Heart

Our life is a journey, it has a beginning and an end. Place in my Heart from the indie rock band The Lost Messiahs deals with the mixed feelings that affect the ones who stay, following the loss of a very close person. It is also a hell of a good indie rock song. So put your headphones on and say I love you to your dear ones!

The Lost Messiahs is composed of experienced musicians who already have a rich musical pedigree. The members of the band are Eamonn Duff on bass and backing vocals, James O’ Connor on vocals and acoustic guitar, Ollie Plunkett on electric guitar and backing vocals and Martha Cummins on drums and backing vocals.
Barry Egan from the Irish Sunday Independent recently wrote – ‘The Lost Messiahs have a distinct sound with echoes of Mercury Rev and The National’.
Personally, I would add a touch of The Stranglers as well.

Place in my Heart is a track which will appear on their third studio upcoming album called Connected to the Real. As mentioned before, the song addresses the sad theme of losing someone close, however, the song is also about the understanding of death and the love and gratitude it sometimes highlights.

Ollie Plunkett explained to headphonik: “Place in my Heart was written following the death of my mother. The song intentionally has an urgency and intensity that captures the rawness of the loss and the final unspoken conversation. I was privileged to spend really quality time with her during her last three days on Earth and the song captures that final letting go and how, while it’s sad and difficult, life goes on, the man that used to call to her nursing home selling papers will still call as if nothing happened. It also captures a strong spiritual connection and a belief that when she is ready to go, it will be with deep gratitude for the love and kindness she shared on Earth.

The touch of your skin is so cold
And I know there’s something happening within
The slow winding down, the end of the show
And there’s something I want you to know
There’s a place in my heart for you

Quite frankly, I found James O’ Connor’s voice mesmerising and the backing vocals part makes you want to sing along. Musically, Place in my Heart has that 80s touch, enhanced by the sound of the keyboard supporting the dialog of the guitars. The chorus is very efficient and once again, the atmosphere created by the vocal arrangements gets your attention from the start of this musical journey to the end.
